Sharpmaker rod cleaning

This has been discussed in depth, but whatever. Dishwasher, simple green, toothpaste, lots of good methods.

I use Barkeeper Friend and green "Scotchbrite" scrubby thing....works great.

+1 on the Barkeepers Friend. The powdered type works best with a few drops of water but I've used the Barkeepers Friend liquid ceramic cooktop cleaner and it works very well.

+1 again! If you don't have any bar keepers friend or another scouring powder in the house I have found baking soda and a bit of water does a very good job on my ceramic hones and ceramic sharp maker rods. Best of luck!

A worn sponge and Bon Amis works great for me. Just clean them frequently!

Stainz

I have also used plain old Comet with great results. I love the feel of "fresh" stones. I'm the guy that keeps my Sharpmaker out on the counter with my UF white stones. In the morning I will hit my daily carry with about 10 passes each side. Guess it's like stropping it every day.

This is gonna sound weird.
I had some Muriatic Acid left over after etching some concrete.
So, everyone knows acid eats into steel.
I dropped my rods into a bit of acid so they were completely covered.
Those things came out beautiful.
But be careful if you use this method.
