Hi,

I know this was posted here before, but, regarding the sharpmaker, to what grit does the rods correspond ? The browns, whites and whites (extra-fines) ???

Thanks,

I was talking to a friend, and he told me (he wasn't sure) that the browns are 600grit, whites are 1000 and extra-fines are 1600 or 1800...

Could it be ???

Could you tell me if diamond rods are better than ordinary for sharpening hard steel knives like Busse?

I like the diamond rods for reprofiling bevels of some knives. I think it will work great for hard steel.

I once reprofiled my D6 (60Hrc) 9" bowie with the diamond rods. And it worked great.

Is it much better than other rods for this use? My problem is sometimes the edge on my knives becomes so dull that you can see some flat areas on the edge when you look in close distance, i.e. no proper edge. It is very difficult to remove these flat parts on blades with high hardness, while it is usually not a problem on kitchen knives. I thought to use bench grinder for this purpose, but I was told that the grinder would take too much metal. Does the diamond rod do a better job by taking less metal? I would not like to get stuck to the rod sharpening the knife for a long time either, but something like 15 minutes is not problem.
Regards,

I would have liked diamond rods, but their too espensive as I only have a few one or two knives I would use them on, would have been really suefull for hard Shiefield steel.

Could anybody advise me where on internet I could buy diamond rods? I checked ebay, but they are quite expensive there.
Regards,

I don't know where you can find those diamond rods for less.

Any internet store will sell it for US$50 to US$60....

And I don't advise you to buy them used, 'cause you can't know the abuse they have taken.
