Hey All,

After reading the booklet, watching the video, and practicing on several knives, I'm getting better with the Sharpmaker. I've seen, almost universally, praise for the system. However, I'm having problems with rounding the points on my knives. Has anyone had similar problems? Does anyone have suggestions?

Thanks.

Cheers,

ARGGGGGHHHH! Yes.

I have rounded off the points of several of my knives through use of the Sharpmaker system. Basically, as I understand it the problem "we" are having is one of allowing the tip of the knife to fall off of the stone at the end of each stroke, and cause the rounding off effect.

Apparently this is much worse when the corners of the stones (grey or white) are used, as the pressure on that little bit of blade matl' is then substantilly higher.

I guess all we can do is to be very careful to stop the stroke before the blade leaves the stone; particularly the corners of each. Then, when the flats are being used, you can slowly lift the handle of the knife to finish the tip being careful again to not let the tip fall off of the stone. Personally, I am finding this very difficult to do with consistency.

Good luck, Jeff/1911.

i had this problem too at 1st nut have found that as you come to the tip left up on the rear of the knife an bring the tip on across this seems to have eliminated the problem for me,.

I had the same problem. I just was not careful when sharpening. If the rounding is bad just call warranty service. I sent in two Enduras and one Delica. They reprofiled the tips and sharpened the knives for me. They normally charge $5 but since there were three knives they asked me to send $10. No problem. They did a great job!
