I just finished shaprening my 3rd knife. Well the first two do not really count, the first I had to stop because it really does take forever to put a new edge angle on a blade with the ceramic, and I rushed the second knife's sharpening because my friend was comming to pick me up. I got the second knife pretty damn sharp, it would shave hair and split most paper, but not notebook paper. Now the third time really is a charm, the edge I honed, 40 degrees, will cut ink off of note book paper and shave hair by just barely touching the skin. I got a few hairs to actually come off before touching the skin! I realized that notbook paper is really thin and is a great test for sharpness.

The knife was pretty sharp right off of the sharpmaker, but i did strop with 3 micorn diamond paste on the backside of an old leather belt I found.

I was worried about getting the sharpmaker because I have only spent a couple hours my entire life trying to sharpen a blade free hand, but it really is easy to use. I was going to get an edge pro but I am glad i saved the money and the sharpmaker has made me more confident because I am control. I am very satisfied and highly recomend it.

The S/M is not intended for heavy metal removal. Use something like a DMT diamond benchstone to set a small back-bevel angle, then use the S/M to put the final edge on it.
