So when I buy a new sharpmaker, should I rub the stones together before I start using it? I saw that in the video and some suggestions on here. What do you all think?

Also thinking about dropping this all recurve 630 thing, and picking up a Chinook II. Always loved that one.

I rubbed the brown ones together -- isn't that in the video?

Don't give up on recurves. A couple of weeks ago I reprofiled my BM 710HS with my Sharpmaker. It took a LONG time, but the corners of the stones work perfectly on the recurve portion. I put a 30 degree bevel on it, and finished with a few strokes on the fine followed by several more on the ultra fine. Worked great.

yep, rubbing the stone together (both brown and white BTW) will broke them in faster, very recommended.

I rubbed the corners together on mine and it seemed to make them work far better almost instantly. I don't really think you'll lose anything from trying it tbh.
