Sharpmaker trouble

I have been having a tough time getting my Spyderco Native really sharp after loosing that scary sharp factory edge. One wierd thing is I seem to get a good start with the grey rods then when I go to the whites the edge seems worse. Seems like I go two steps forward then one step back.

Anyone else have trouble as a beginer with the Sharpmaker? I have watched the video and I think I'm doing everything right.

AS you work through the corners of the grey rods down through the flats of the whites, use progressively LESS pressure. By the time that I hit the whites, I'm am pretty much letting the weight of the knife carry the knife down.

I am assuming that your Native is a plain edge of course. If its serrated, you only use the corners of the whites.

The edge is likely burred, before you finish on the medium rods increase the angle by tilting the blade to the side and do one to two passes per side, this should cut off the burr, now continue on to the fine stones.

Be careful not to use too much pressure ..... contact area between edge and corners on the Sharpmaker rods is very small, too much pressure can deform the edge and produce worse burrs, or chip the edge.
