Sharpmaker ultrafine rods?

I was not aware they have a finer "UltraFine" grade (I see Cliff Stamp's reference in his post above)

However the regular white Fine grade is what I use most for touching up (using the pointed side only) - this seems to be fine (sorry for the pun - no, I'm not :D :D ) for my blades. I hardly ever use the medium (coarser) grade as I don't allow my knives to become dull enough to warrant grinding off a lot of steel.

If I need to re-profile an edge then I use an Eze-lap fine diamond hone to remove lots of material - and finish off to put the final edge on with the white fine grade rods.

I got a set of the ultrafines. Talk about putting a "scary" sharp edge on.

They do make a difference.

I generally finish up with the flats on the medium rods so that the edge has a little toothiness for better slicing. I use the fine rods to get a fine edge then I use a few light strokes on the medium rods to set the edge finish that I want.

Thanks for that link, Cliff. Looks like I'll be getting UF rods to go with my new Sharpmaker. I think I'll get some diamond rods, too, for the day when I need to reprofile and edge.

BTW I have used a set of the large Razor Edge Systems (http://www.razoredgesystems.com/) stones for a while now with very good results. There are just so many boosters for the Sharpmaker here that I had to buy one.

I have some of the ulta fines for my sharpmaker. They will really put a mirror finish on the edge and it is sharp enough to scare ya' (and cut you too;) )
