Sal,
Hi, and thanks for the great job you're doing on the forum. It is great to see you and the other manufacturers here and showing a genuine interest in what us "ELUs" think of your products. I personally think your products are of excellent quality. I spent the day yesterday giving my Goddard Lightweight a real workout. We were hit by a Cyclone, (Southern version of your Hurricane), on thursday night and this was the first time we were able to get outside and clean up the grounds. Spent hours slashing and cutting with it and it performs admirably.
Anyway on to my question. I own a sharpmaker and am very happy with it. I am really interested in the new sharpmaker with the added angles, however here in Australia they cost $80 plus and I would find it hard to justify buying a complete set. Would it be possible for you to offer just the base as an upgrade for us users of the original?
Also what is the possibility of producing a diamond rod set as an accessory.
Regards

John - Thank you for the kind words. The base won't fit the older stones. Sorry. I know it probably doesn't make you feel better, but they are expensive here as well ($65 - $70). "Making things right" does have its inconveniences. However, getting 20 years excellent service from the unit is realistic. Not too many maintenance products can do as well for as long.

We are working on the diamonds as well. As an accessory item. Making the diamonds stick against the likes of our steels is a difficult task, but we progresswing nicely. Perhaps by year end.

Michael Yates, Exclusive Spyderco distributor for Australia has been an excellent member of our international network for some 10 years now. He has made it possible for Aussies to get any of our products through good and bad times.

Sal,
does that mean that you will stop producing replacement parts for the older sharpmakers? My understanding is that the brown coarse stone do have to be replaced every so often.
thanks

Sal,
thanks for the quick reply, not the one I wanted to hear however as long as I can get replacement stones for my current Sharpmaker I will make do with the one angle until it dies on me, although if it lasts as well as you say it will probably outlast me.

Regards
John

I have been waiting for the new sharpmaker. Are they available yet? If so would anyone care to show me some internet dealers that have them?

I've been holding off to buy the new one also. But I bought a pair of diamond speed sleeves for it. Will they fit the new stones or not?

cobalt,
I'm interested in were you can get diamond sleeves for the sharpmaker too.
TIA
PR

I actually bought the diamond sleeves from a local knife store that still had them in stock. I tried locating them over the internet with no luck. It seems that they have not been available for a while. The knife store that I bought them from has one set left. If someone is interested, I'll give them the number. They may have more in the back, but I only saw two, the one I bought and the one left. Since most people don't know about the sleeves, I'm sure they will be sitting there for a while.

We are currenlty working on a diamond solution, not quite a stone, not quite a sleeve. Will let you know more when the bugs are out.

You tease you.

Seriously, sounds like a must buy for me. Please keep us posted.

I've heard of the extra fine stones/sticks for the sharpmaker but have never seen any for sale. Do they exist, and where can I buy them? Also I cannot find the new sharpmaker. Everyone still is selling the old version.
Thanks in advance. Mike

Approximately what month will the new sharpmaker be out? Not trying to pin Sal down, just need to know if I need to buy the present one or wait...

Mark C - current schedule says April. The Sharpmaker is ready, the instruction video and book are a bigger project than anticipated. Sorry for the delay. Hope this helps.
