Sharpmaker... what the?

Two weeks ago I ordered a Sharpmaker from an online store in the US, and it just arrived here (Sri Lanka).
So, I'm ripping open the package, when I realize that something's not quite right.
In the package I find:
Two gray stones.
One manual.
One video.
Four white stones.
Four safety rods.
Two bases, and
no lid.
This wouldn't really be a problem (hey, two extra stones right?), but without the lid it doesn't have the portability, which is sort of important to me. So what do I do? Has it happened before?

Was it in it's clam package (platic packaging) or out of it and packed differently? I've never seen one of these go through the store like that. You can see the lid in the package without openeing it so it should have been noticable. Wierd.

It was in the plastic package, which seems to be pretty much tamperproof. I sure couldn't open the package without breaking it. It was heat sealed in three places (top, and both sides), and the plastic broke around these seals when I opened it (hope that makes sense). So, since only the lid is missing, is it possible to order one separately from Spyderco?

I'm sure Spyderco will send you one if you contact them, if you are not able to where you are at let me know I'll do it for you. Just E-mail me your name address and evreything if you can't and I'll get it to Spyderco for you. You may want to contact the dealer you bought it from to see what they will do but they may want you to ship back to them for a replacement and that would cost you shipping and this is not of your fault so you shouldnt have to IMO.

Here is Spyderco's contact Information:

you can also use this link to contact them VIA E-mail:Contact Spyderco:

I have used this link to contact them in the past with great results.

I've sent Spyderco an email, hopefully they'll be able to do something. Thank you so much for your help (and the kind offer)!

don't feel bad. one of my white stones from the sharpmaker is warped. i contacted spyderco and they said i have to mail it to them for inspection before it can be replaced. i offered to email them a pic, but that was not good enough. it was a present, so it really is a pain(you know where)to have to pay to ship my present back, when(IMO)they could see a pic of the warped stone(laying on a mirror for better visual). i guess i will have to ship it to them to get the correct set of sharpening stones(only one is warped).

Hi Impulsae. Sorry for the inconvenience. I've not heard of this happening before. I'll run this by Mike and see what he can do.

Well, Spyderco are sending me a lid, free of charge, so two thumbs up for their great (and courteous) service! They replied on the 15th, but I've been unable to get online since Wednesday (one of the drawbacks to living in this part of the world). Thank you for your concern though, you guys are great!
Sorry about your experience with Spyderco, waynejitsu, I agree, they could at least have taken a look at your photo, but what can you do? I think/hope they'll make it right in the end, like they did for me.

Good to hear Dan...great company!

ALL 4 stones are warped on my sharpmaker. One of each white and grey are bent, and one of each are twisted. Also, one of each have a nick in one corner side. It still works, but I'm not sure how long I will put up with it. It too was a gift. I don't have the recipt, and I don't wanna screw with sending off the stones. In fact, I don't even know why I'm posting this except to inform and bitch a lil'. I've never owned a spydie, but plan to. I'll let you all know what I think when the day comes. First I need a few more CRK's!!!

i did return the warped stone to spyderco. Mike called the day it arrived, WOW! talk about great customer service. he informed me that the stone would be replaced and when/how it would be shipped out and when to expect it. i like the added touch of someone at spyderco calling to let you know what the status of the return is.(THANKS MIKE! Sal should give you a promotion or something:) what i didn't like was..., having to return the stone that was new, at my expense, when i offered to take a pic and email it to them(spyderco policy, i guess). you could have easily noticed the curve when sitting on a mirror. it wasn't really that bad, but for the price(retail was paid), you expect each stone to be "perfect", but cust. serv. was great, thanks to MIKE!
