Sharpmarker ultra fine rods question

I was doing some touch ups on the flats of the ultra fine rod, and had accidentally slip the tip off the edge of the flats at least once, but the tip does not seem to get rounded off like others have warned here, at least not to my naked eye.

My question being is the ultra fine rod capable of rounding off if the tip slides off the flats or are they simply too fine to actually cause any damage at all?

It's certainly capable of rounding a tip, as the ceramic is just as hard at the UF grit. As with any abrasive grinding though, a 'mistake' at finer grit will do less damage than the same 'oopsie' at a coarser grit. It may not be enough to worry about, especially if you're not detecting any noticeable rounding. My eyes are getting old(er) ;), and I tend to check tip sharpness by testing penetration through free-hanging phonebook paper or similar. That's when you'll notice if the tips are even slightly blunt; doesn't take much damage to keep the tip from biting into a phonebook page.
