do knives get dull in normal storage, if so how are different steels and time frame effected or is this my imagination?????? ;)

I don't think so, there's no reason for the steel on the edge of the knife to fall off if you're not using it.

Hows this sound, I have heard that at a microscopic level, a very sharp blades edge has serrations which is what makes it razor sharp. When these serrations get microscopic beads of water stuck in them they rust causing that edge to dull over time without use. So a blade in a humid enviroment will dull without use.

Just a thought, I'd like to hear from those more educated in this area than me, should'nt be hard.

They can rust readily and go dull, there is also a relaxation issue if you just steel a blade for example and put it away it won't be as sharp as it was freshly steel when you take it out of storage.
