Does anyone have any experience with these nice looking leather sheaths?

hows the retention for a firesteel?

does it seem worth it to get a leather sheath on a knife the size of the rc-3 and if so could i still throw it into jeans pockets and have enough of the knife in my pocket that it wont fall out? wish i could handle one in person but i guess pics are the next best thing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have several Sharpshooter sheaths, and they are top-notch. They're a first rate company that makes very nice sheaths. The retention on their firesteel loop is very good- almost too tight at first. But that's what you want, as your firesteel is going to get smaller and smaller over time as you use it.

A leather sheath on a RC-3 is absolutely worth it. Not that there is anything wrong with kydex, but leather is so much more pleasing to the eye and hand.

i have a few of SS kydex sheaths and one of his leather sheaths.. they're not bad at all...

i also do a little leatherwork and as soon as i get an RC-4, i'll probbaly be making/offering up some leather sheaths...:)

well i guess the biggest question i have is that they claim that the treatment on the sheath makes it nearly impervious to the elements i have seen what the elements can do to a knife sheath and i dont want my sheath to turn into a rotten ess after a bit in the woods.

Moonwilson is right! I have one of the Sharpshooter sheaths you are talking about for my RC-4. It is great! Perfect retention for both the knife and a firesteel. I asked Reid (Sharpshooter) about the firesteel loop when I got mine because it seemed too small. But once you get the steel in there it stretches just enough to hold it securely. The EEP is a great too. Not only does it protect the sheath but in warm weather it will seep onto the blade of your knife and help protect that as well. If you do decide to get one don't be alarmed when the retention strap leaves dark marks on your knife handle. This is from the EEP and comes right off with some warm water and dishsoap or a toothbrush. It's definitely the only sheath I well ever need for my RC-4!

They stink really bad but the fit of the knife is really good. I cut my fire steel loop off, it was too tight at the top. Also the very bottom is not sewn in order to have a "drain hole" so the leather can come up like a flap and can be damaged. Other than that there great sheaths, the fit of the knife is really nice. If you could get one without the eep treatment it would be better IMO.

I kept hearing they smelled like donuts ???? to me the do not stink but the funny smell is worth it to be impervious to weather... Smells like leather conditioner or something to me...does not stink, My firesteel loop was tight and I just worked the firesteel into the loop slowly...the little tied down flap,I do not use but I would not cut it off either....I am going to get another but for the RC4,I like the Sharp shooter leather sheaths from KSF ...Great price for a excellent Leather sheath.
