Well hello everyone. Blade was off the charts and looks like everyone had a blast. I went from the show with John Horrigan straight to the Florida Keys to do a little fishing, got back last night. We put an awful lot of blackfin tuna in the boat and I think John had a lot of fun. Time to get back in the game and start posting up photos as I get them in. I scored some real nice pieces but do not yet have any pics. Fortunately I have this one from S & S Hansen. This is their first fixed blade ever and was rewarded with both Best Art Knife and Best of Show.

Everyone it was a pleasure to meet with you all and spend time when possible. I hope to have more photos in the next couple of weeks and will post when I get them.

Beautiful dagger/sheath.
One of those monumental projects where everyone involved benefits including the custom knife community.

The CKCA is going to have some outstanding knives to choose from for our 2011 calendar which will be out in early October 2010. Glad I won't be involved in picking the knives/photos.

Great looking dagger. The details are really cool.

I'm not completely sure but if I recall correctly Jon told me the handle is made of Pietersite.

That is a stunnig piece, I'm sure, but why is the pic so tiny? We need to see this one in all its glory. At least I do.

Congrats on a fanastic new addition. A Blade "Best of Show" is seriously prestigious award.

Okay, let's try this one. Jon I resized it for you (the original is waaay too large).

Thanks Marcel for re-sizing that photo, much better. You are correct the handle material is African Pietersite.

Jon

Super on all counts. I love the photo. Jon did you commission this piece? I can't imaging they happened to bring a tuna-engraved knife for the helluvit. ;)

Wonderful. :)

Coop

Coop, you are correct. The Black Marlin and fixed blade where my idea. It was a fortunate that I was able to convince them to make their first fixed blade.

Jon

Oh yeah. Got to handle this one, too. Amazing thing to have in your hand.

Jon had quite a Blade Show!

John

That is one huge beauty of a dagger, Jon!

EDIT: Here is a story Jon and I thought to tell. I called him while he was at Blade and asked for him to question S & S Hansen about a piece of steel that purportedly came from them, one that was on a Warenski folder I own. Well, as it turns out, Jon and I both got a good story out of it, because the Hansens had never made but one piece of steel for anyone else to use - except one piece for Buster - which he used on the AKI folder I own. They gave him the piece because he was always giving them pieces of rare stone, after he was through with it.

And the Hansens' commented that it was Buster's help and influence from those days that allowed them to complete this first sheath, for this first dagger!

I call that a good story.

Congrat again to you Jon, and thanks for giving me an up close look at this one in Atlanta. It's exceptional and deserved best of show.

I'm sure after the awards came they were glad you talked them into doing this piece Jon! Congrats to all:thumbup::thumbup:!

Great story, great time, but an even greater knife. I am still quite pleased they agreed to tackle a fixed blade. This is a case of the right place, right time as they have been asked before. To me it is quite apparent they can build anything they put their minds to. Not to mention they are two of the nicest folks I have met in a long time. In addition to the pleasure of owning this piece I am sure the awards will bring them even more admiration from the knife collecting community.

Thanks Shaun and Sharla!!

Jon

Talk about detail the knife and sheath are just gorgeous. Congratulations on the knife the sheath and your fishing trip.

It's an amazing dagger Jon. I can't recall seeing a fixed blade from the Hanson's before. You might have expanded their horizons a bit, and opened up a new facet of collectors for them. I love the large auto daggers they are known for, but for me, this is the coolest piece by them I have ever seen.. I hope they consider doing more fixed blades.. Thanks for posting your awesome new art dagger. Best, Regards, Rich
