I posted a picture of a shaving horse I made in a previous thread. Hope this helps out those who were interested in plans.

Mine is the most like the one here: http://www.logancabinetshoppe.com/shop-projects.html
No drawings here, but his was inspired by this link which has drawings: http://www.greenwoodworking.com/ShavingHorsePlans.

When I did mine I used what I had. One thing I didn't have was a tapered reamer for the leg mortises. So starting with a dowel pointer an the legs:

This chamfer allows the hollow auger to start and create a straight tenon:

The tenon ends got saw kerfs for wedges. I also used glue on the legs. The weged leg tenons can be seen in the next picture. This picture also shows some of the detail for attaching the work surface:

I found that the clamping block wouldn't always hold what I wanted, so I added a piece of heavy leather to one side of it:

Hope this has been helpfull

I noticed this the other day and am finally posting, thanks for posting pictures of you shave horse, I have been wanting to make one, just ain't got around to it yet, I like the dowuling tool for your brace. BEen wanting one of them too.

i love it.
it would be embarrassing to show my crude saving horse.
i did make a knuckle or hinge similar to the one you made.

also i copped out and did the three legged variety , i tried four legs but couldn't get the angles right

thanks for posting
excellent horse

Thanks for the reply. In my mind a shave horse is just a tool subject to abuse. I probably got lucky with my legs, but they can be fine tuned if you have a flat surface to work with. I know the technique I used was described somewhare on the internet. Sorry I couldn't find it again to post here. Three legs are not a copout. I considered it. The disadvantage of four legs is using it outside on uneven ground.
