Shaving sharp at 1200 grit?

Hey bladeforums members, I have a quick question. When properly sharpened on my dmt aligner set. household my knives get hair shaving sharp at 1200. They get close but not full shaving sharp. I am thinking of buying the extra extra fine, and the extra course for re profiling.

Get the extra fine, by all means. But with a little work, you should be able to get a shaving edge with a 1200. Actually, you can get a shaving edge with a 320 fairly easily.

I have no problems shaving hair off my arm after sharpening only on a 220 grit Norton stone - Shaving hair off the arm really isn't a good test of sharpness.

Now, if you're confident enough to shave your FACE with your knife, you've got a decent edge

To really make a jump in sharpness, start stropping the final edge.
