Where did this guy come from? Have I been asleep? I just picked up this nice hunter, and am VERY impressed! The blade is about 4" of forged 52100, flat ground to as close to perfection as a human being can do. Nice handrubbed satin finish. Not sure if the guard is nickel or stainless. Ringed Gidgee wood handle. One of the best feeling handles ever.

Here's the other side. As you can see, the grinds are a mirror image of the other side. Dang, I love this hunter!

1) Australia. 2) Yes :p Shawn does very nice stuff from what I've seen in photos, though I have yet to handle one in person. Your impressions seem to confirm my expectation that his knives are indeed as good as they look. That's a very nice hunter to be sure. I've got to get me a gidgee-handled knife one of these days. I love the look of that wood. Congrats on the new knife buddy!

I can't believe it! I am finally ahead of the curve on Danbo. I have one damascus bowie by Shawn in hand (they feel even better than they look), with two more on order. His Damascus is beyond belief, IMHO.

I hope to see Shawn and his lovely wife Amanda this week, I will put a good word in for you guys. Fair warning his list is growing rapidly.

Curses. I know where you got that knife Danbo. I've been eyeing it for awhile. But like my usual self, I waver over actually pulling the trigger. Oh well, you snooze you loose. Congrats on it, I'm glad to hear that it's as good a knife as it seems to look in photos.

Damn! That is one of the finest handled hunter/utilities I've seen. Fantastic. Palm swell, and look how that handle radiuses into the guard... and the butt swell... just great. And the guard isn't too long either, i.e. it won't get in the way. Blade profile is just spot on for a hunter also, a touch of drop, nice and pointy, and enough belly for the skinning aspect of game prep, with a bit of care.

Ringed Gidgee I've seen is a great cross between Curly Maple and Ironwood... has the colors and chatoyance of ironwood and the oily/durable features of ironwood, but with that great banding.

Here is what I found for contact info at Aussie Knifemaker's Guild. http://www.akg.org.au/

Anyone know if he has a website?

Hi danbo. The guard is 416 S/Steel and I believe that is one of the few sheaths I was not helping him finish the night before he left for the States. You can read all about him at knifeart.com.

Shawn's work has improved out of sight in just a couple of years. I hope he apreciates all the corrective beatings Steve Filicietti and I have given him during that time. Shawn would now be classed as one of Australia's best forgers. Now if we could only get him to talk without that American accent!:D

nice score brother Danbo!

Shawn certainly has come a long way! That is an awesome peace.

An American accent, I never noticed Peter... ;)

Shawn is a top maker and an overall super guy. I have been blessed by having had more instruction and direction from him than from anyone else in knifemaking. I have had the privilaege of handling many of his latest creations and let me tell you - those contoured handles are amongst the most comfortable pieces of human engineering imaginable.

Shawn has said to me that he is sorely lacking in self-promotion. He doesn't have a website, unfortunately. But when you look at his work, understand that he pretty much sells everything he makes, and is one of the very few full-time knifemakers in Australia ...

Who needs self-promotion ? His knives do the talking !!

Oh yes, that accent ... :D Mine isn't flash either... Jason.
