Is the new SHBM exactly like the original? By appearance it seems to be. I had an original and sold it due to the dreaded and infamous SHBM pinkie. Is there any reason to believe that I won't have the same issue with the new one?

I think Garth said that the pinkie issue has been taken care of, i will see if i can find the post.

AWESOME!!!! Hadn't seen that either.

Thank you Lennox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, thank you for that info. I had not seen that anywhere. I am curious how they resolved it. Garth...any chance you'd care to elaborate specifically on what you guys did? Please? :D

Ditto thanks Lennox I hadn't remembered seeing that either. Definately a

Now I may have to buy the SHBM before a NMFBM more decisions muahaha!

Wait...wasn't that the thread where Garth was describing the handle on his new competition Cabo Wabo mug? I see no mention of SHBM in that quote.

Hmmm Garth may be along shortly to tell me i am wrong but to me it look's like they have made a bit more room for the pinkie, imo the handle on the new one looks a tad longer with more room for your hand from the center fastner towards the back, also the angle on the blade looks to be at a very slight angle downwards which will leave your hand at a different angle compared to the old one.

I've been planning to get a FBM and now I'm considering getting a SHBM. Anyone care to share their handle preference and why it is preferred?

The Fusion handle, as on the FBM series, was considered to be an improvement over Ergo handle, which was itself an improvement over the original Straight Handle. So, yes, many people do like the Fusion handle. On the other hand, the new AnSHBM is an iconic Busse design at a very good value for a large Busse. And, Garth has indicated the 'pinky bite' issue has been addressed.

Thanks resinguy. I've been intrigued by the fusion handle ever since I discovered Busse. May have to hold out for an FBM or and an FSH if I can't get my hands on a BM. So many choices, so little cash...

There several flavors of FBM, each with it's own feel and fans.

CG FBM - gets my vote for best all-rounder of the FBM family. Plus the grooves look cool.

FBM LE - thicker, flat ground, satin. Very nice

CG FFFBM - fat b****rd

CG NMFBM - 1" longer, NM treatment, the first run models @ 0.24" thickness makes a great chopper without being ridiculously heavy

NMFBM LE - a big, heavy beauty.

Plus various show special variants that blur the lines on model names, just to be confuse you further.

Enjoy the quest!

Yes the "pinky pinch" has been addressed with the new design. It is amazing what a bit more room and a slight angle difference can do. We spent a lot of time playing with different handle tweeks and the new straight handle feels great. After extended chopping sessions no one had even a start of a hot spot.

Garth

Even slight radiusing slows or stops Pinky Pinch, but the real fix is called holding the knife tight in your hand.

Having owned a few dozen over the years, the worst offenders were the ones with square or sharp angles, Flat where your hand, fingers ride, then no blending to where the coating was, aka too sharp, by Radiusing the pain Mostly went away with it.

But, if while chopping, you allowed you grip to slacken a bit, then all the weight, and momentum would slam onto your little finger at the bend of the middle joint.
