A couple days ago, I found myself really needing to blow off some steam. I decided to visit one of the local parks for a little walk through the forest before it got completely dark...it was already just about dusk so this was only going to be a quick walk through the trail.
Within minutes of entering the forest I see that last week's wind storm had knocked over lots of trees, big and small. It looked like the park rangers had cut and moved the larger trees that had fallen, but they left quite a few smaller ones, some of which were blocking trails. For example this one:
Luckily I did have my SHBM with me and was grateful for the opportunity to put her and myself to work...I start chopping away, working myself from the left to the right side of the pic you see above. I cleared some branches first so I could have space to work on the main trunk, which I then cut apart in a few 4-6ft sections. I worked my way down the tree, getting some interesting looks from the few people still on the trails at this point.
It was all pretty easy and a great time. I was slowed down a little by the weird angle of the hill the tree was resting on (off to the right of the path) which made things a little trickier, but not a big deal at all...
About 20 minutes later:
Trail cleared just as darkness sets in:
Forgive the pics, my phone really doesn't like low light...but hey you get the idea...
I've decided I'll go back and look for other areas to clear. It's fun and benefits everyone who uses the trails around here.
Mission accomplished: by the time I was back at my car, I was smiling, happy to have improved the trail a little bit, and had all but forgotten about all the frustrating BS that had brought me there in the first place
Yup, that's right:
Busse knives - making the world a better place, one fallen tree at a time
