Folks experienced with SHBMs, please help a noob out. I know nobody has handled the FBMs yet, but based on what you see and what your experiences have been in using a SHBM, what are the pros and cons of the SHBM vs the FBM LE and CG in usage or expected usage (if that makes sense).

Thanks!

Well, the FBM CG will be half the price of the SHBM, that would one big difference!

Beautiful Snag OTE!!!!! I suddenly hate school now...making miss something like that!

The CGFBM will be vastly superior. Please send me your new blade so your humiliation will be less severe. I will not charge you for this service.

Not to date myself, but I kind of feel like what Walter Payton must have felt like after making a one-handed catch in the last 5 seconds of the game to put the Bears out front. ( I know everyone here knows who Walter Payton was)

So where is Skunk because I need a serious answer? Don't make me pull this car over!!!:p

If you want to date yourself, I would suggest dinner and a movie, followed by a few drinks to loosen yourself up.

I have not yet handled your SHBM, so I cannot answer this question until you send it to me...

I promise to send it back after I get my FBM (so I can give you an honest answer);)

Well, the way I look at it, the SHBM and the standard FBM will be very similar in overall balance and size. If you prefer the new handles of the HOFSH or the FSH, then you will prefer the FBM. If you prefer the handles of the SHBM or SHSH, then there is that.

As for the FBM LE, well there will nothing like it. The SHBM is a hair over 1/4 inch while the LE will be thicker than 5/16" and the blade itself will be about 1/2" longer, so it is much more heft. This is something you must decide on.

I like my SHBM's but I have lived with an SHBM for nearly 10 years, so they are familiar to me. I do like the HOFSH handles so I should also like the FBMLE.

So in other words the difference will be up to you.

Ok. The BC site says the LE will have a full height grind. I can't tell from the picture, but does the SHBM also have a full height grind?

Also, I had "heard" that with extended use, the SH design has, for some, been the source of wrist or hand fatigue. To me, I just call that "work". But, is there some reputed benefit in the Fusion handle design that implies it might be easier to use for extended periods of time? Do you think the increased weight of the LE might actually make it noticeably more difficult to use after an extended period of time relative to the SHBM?

Again, sorry for the noob questions. I really am just trying to learn a little here. Thanks!

The newer handles should be more confortable, but this is such a personal issue that everyone is differen. Some people don't like the old SH handles, while others hate the E-handles and some like nothing but E-handles. Some really like the fussion handles, but again, it is your own personal taste and the only way to find out is to test them both.

I've handled the FBM and have a SHBM. If I didn't have SH I'd get it in a second but can't justify the $$ right now.

I have handled the FBM at the last three blade shows & have my pic with one in each hand, they are awesome,& bigger than the SHBM, but the balance is fantastic,I ordered three combat grade FBMs, I cant wait till they get here!

That almost sounds like your saying that you'd "probably" choose a FBM CG over a SHBM, if for no other reason than price, and even for the same money as a SHBM, probably would pick the FBM LE. Is that right?

I don't know. I do have some FBM CGs on order, but no LE. Now I have the SHBM coming and I'm not sure yet how that will impact me. On the one hand, between the CGs and the SHBM, I feel like I will have all I will ever need. On the other, I feel like I should at least order the LE so I can do a side by side comparison, and then just keep the one I prefer. The only flaw with that is that knowing my past, I won't be able to decide and will feel like keeping them both.

I can try to get some pics up of the two side by side by the weekend if ya want me to.....

Flatalnder would be a good judge as he has his original heavily used SHBM and has checked out the FBM at the Indy show....
