Hey there guys. It's been a long while since I been here. I am interested in trying to find out about a 'Very early straight handled battle mistress ( I think it is a semi clip point)' that I have. It has a black blade and black cloth scales. It is slightly used but seems to have the factory blade grind still on it. No chips on edge or finish, but there is some light scratches on the finish as well as some shinyness to the finish. Any ideas what i got and an estimation of worth?

Sorry for the imposition I don't have much info on these knives.
Stan

DO NOT SELL THAT KNIFE until you know what you have. If you like email me photos.
I have been looking for one and have a good idea of the value.

Stan,

I sent you a detailed email on information based on what you told in your post. I'll need pictures to be more specific. Sounds like you have a rare/expensive/special one either way. If you didn't get my message, just shoot me an email on my account: pbubsy at yahoo dot com

BTW: I've bought/sold/traded for eleven different SHBM's in the past 8 months. I've got a great idea of the value.

Paul will help you as well as Cobalt if he finds this tomorrow or IdahoSkunk, those three know about all there is to know about a SHBM. There are others but how many do you need....

Tony, we should have a SHBM Members only club :p like the classic Cadillacs of the Busse Family :D.

Cobalt is the man when it comes to SHBM's....he probably knows about as much as anyone because he's owned almost all the different variations and continues to pork...same with Papathud

I'd like to hear the quotes we all give you to see how close they are. I guarantee mine and Cobalts will be mighty close as we've been swapping SHBM's a lot :D

Mine will be $55.00 more:D

Well if it is what I think it is I just can't bring myself to spend what it would sell for.

I think it is what you think I think you think it is. They're totally worth jumping through hoops for. Once you've handled one...ESPECIALLY once you've USED one...it's all over. It's a must have. Certain knives are must have's. SHBM's are one of those knives. I know I'm not doing myself or other SHBM porkers any favors by saying that, but it's true :D.

Stan, it sounds like you might just have a 1 of 300. Anyway send some pics to me and I will let you know exactly what you have and why you should keep it unless you are hurting for cash. I do not need another one so I won't be soliciting your knife from you: battlemistress at aol.com

Ahem........
Y'all aren't leaving me out, are you? :p
I can't say that I know more than anyone else about the original 1/300s, but I might have a few to look at to do a comparison.

A SHBM? In certain circles, it is known as the "Busse that should have never been" or "Jerry's tragic mistake". I'm sorry to be the one to tell you, but that knife is worthless, and worse yet- has the potential to contaminate other knives in your collection with its worthlessness. As a public service, I will take it off of your hands for you and make sure it is properly disposed of. I'll even pay shipping! I'll even trade you a FFBM so that you can see what a real chopper looks like.

I'm a giving sort of person.

These guys know nothing about SHBM's. Cobalt and Skunk know nothing about SHBM's. Send it to me and I will tell you what it's worth and what it is made of with a deep analysis that will take about 15 years to do, but once it is done you will know all there is to know about your knife.
