I didn't have her 15 minutes, and she drew blood twice. This is one wicked sharp knife:
And, very unforgiving of sloppy handling.

Spyderco has produced another great folder.

Damn!

I've learned all about sloppy handling of sharp knives.

What I've learned (the hard way) is that you really, really have to take your time and concentrate when cleaning the knife. You can't be distracted - i.e., talking on the phone, listening to music, etc. Also, you have to do stuff like applying oil to the blade very slowly.

Dawg,I just had the same experience with my new Native! I blessed it once, and then once more for good measure! These Spydies just won't allow you to let your mind wander.Ain't it great?

I just got my Calypso JR liteweight from Chi Cutlery and didn't waste any time finding out how well that VG10 steel cuts flesh. It is now more difficult to type this as I am sporting a dressing on my right index finger. It is my own fault.. I have been kidding my wife about the wound (5 stitches) she received from a bread knife while cutting a bagel. The nurse at the ER told her that "bagel stitches" were very common.

I have to say that the most dangerous thing that you can do with a knife is clean it, I have ended up slicing myself more times while I am trying to get that last tiny piece of dirt out of it then doing anything else. Oh and they now make a kind of bagel holder for when cutting them. I guess that they came up with the thing because so many people sliced themselves by holding them wrong while cutting.

I think the bloodlust is ingrained too deeply into the Spyderco line for any of us to be truly safe playing with them. My new Calypso bit me yesterday not even 5 minutes out of the box.

I think it's the knife's way of saying, "This is what I will do for you if you use me or to you if you toy with me."

Maybe the Spyderco knife is like the sea.....no man can truly master it.

theoldawg,

Is this love at first bite? or 2nd bite!!!

I think she broke you in right.

Bob - She didn't have to bite me once - I fell in love right out of the box. I think she was establishing a level of respect!

theoldawg,

She's just trying to tell you she needs a new dress.

Being a juggler, I tend to throw things I'm holding into the air and then try to catch them: very stupid with a Spyderco knife. Hacky-sack players have a similar problem in that they often attempt to catch dropped objects with their feet. One I know "caught" a kitchen knife he had dropped with a bare foot. Opps!
