SHE2 grab bag varient?

I was just fondling one of my favorite blades that came in my grab bags, what I assumed was a SHE2. After closer inspection the blade is very different from the specs of the original O2W SHE2 offering. It is 3/16" thick instead of 1/4" and the blade is more of a semi clipped profile rather than a drop point. Upon further investigation the blade actually looks and measures out just like the thin Ratweiler (which explains why I liked this one so much because I fell in love with my buddy's Rat the first time I held it). It has a blade width of 1 3/4" like the Rat vs. 1 5/8" like the original SHE2. Is this still considered a SHE2 or are the differences enough that it is maybe another new blade that the folks at the shop surprised us with, like the BT6? Thoughts?

The hump at the top where the handle meets the blade us taller on the Rat but other than that, they look very similar to me.

This also has me wondering if the thinner blade means that the blanks were surface milled down past the Pitts that some folks were finding on their 1/4" thick SHE2's. Oh boy. To strip or not to strip. That is the question.....

They appear to be same thickness as the BT6s released in grab bags. I was wondering if they just used the same stock to make both ?
 
Some side by side pics, they are all pretty close size wise. The SHe with clip seems to be the same except for clip point and thickness.

Thanks duramax. How wide are the blades? Mine comes out just under 1 3/4" but those Ratweilers definitely look bigger.

I'd say it's just a variant. Variants often show up at shows. I know they won't say but I'm a firm believer a lot of these awesome grab bag offerings were made to go to Knob Creek had they decided to go.

Agreed, that's a reasonable guess.
 
The glory of being the Knife Maker is the glory of making things differently to see how people respond to them. I can only imagine the combination they got laying around there in order to come up with the next Team Gemini in popularity or to make the blade of all blades. As a maker and a manufacturer they are looking toward the future. There will be another Team Gemini like blade in popularity that takes the world by storm, cant wait to see what it looks like.

Excellent! Thank you very much. So it appears that both blades measure out a little bigger than factory specs. I like that. Lots of sharpenings built in there until they start getting skinny. :thumbup:

I agree with you ^^^ I've gotten a couple in the past that came in under spec, happens I guess with different batches. Still great blades but I'd rather get a 4 3/4 blade that was suppose to be 4 1/2 lol just me :-)
