My fingers barely survived Christmas. I want a set of shears/scissors that can open even child (adult) proof plastic packaging. What do you use?

Trauma shears good enough for you? They can cut pennies in half.

Get a pair of the heavy Gingher scissors. The G8-U is a good model to start. Ebay is your friend if you're looking for good scissors. I don't recall the name offhand but, I got a pair of japanese yellow scissors that have little microteeth in the cutting edge that really hangs onto the plastic packaging which tends to slip on normal scissors.

A proper kitchen shear [with serrations] should work also, though I've never tried.

Thats what I use, and they work great. Much smaller and lighter than some of the other suggestions, but the serrations "bite" right in. Any serrated scissor should perform much better at this task than a non-serrated one.
