Hello everyone I am new to the forum. I sharpen shears for a company, sorry can't say whom... But I would like to share some pics and some knowledge about salon scissors.

Welcome! scissors definitely don't get as much attention here as other non-knife sharp things. Hopefully your knowledge will help with that.

Cool, finally someone who is trained in shear sharpening to give advice! It is a whole different game than anything else.

Welcome!

Thanks man I've been sharpening for 7 months and I'm still learning something new every day.

I think a lot of us are woefully ignorant about shears. I'd love to learn more, starting with more esoteric terminology. What does one call the bend/curve that scissors usually have in the blades? Is there a word for the twist/grind that blades often seem to have that helps ensure they meet only at the edge as they're closed?

The bend/curve is called "set" it is the gap in the blades witch the "ride" crosses on. The "ride" is what gives the shears their cutting edge. There should be absolutely no grinding in the ride it should be buttery smooth

Can you point me in a good direction to quality used shears?
Or a comparison of brands vs quality vs price?

Thanks, if I can find a good pair for my wife, Ill be moving in the right direction.
Might possibly be a segway into a new sharp thing for myself as well!
