Hi folks! Just thought I would share this with you guys since I got the finishing touches put on it earlier tonight.

This is knife kit #3 for me, and my first 'order'. It's for a guy I work with that seen my first 2 knives and asked if I would make him one too. We decided to end up with a trade instead of money. I needed a muzzleloader; he needed a good hunting knife. I got a CVA Staghorn Magnum w/ scope and he's getting this. I think we came out pretty good.

The blade is 8A stainless steel measuring overall length is 7-3/4", the blade is 3-3/4" long and 5/32" thick. 320grit brushed finish by me. Don't care for mirror much. Pins are stainless and both pin faces and blade edges were left rough to match the brushed look.

The handle scales are redwood burl, finished to 2000 grit then 6 coats of Tru Oil rubbed with 800 grit between coats. Lanyard is paracord and will be getting a carved bead from a piece of the scrap I when I cut out the handle shapes.

Sheath is 8/9oz veg-tan leather from usaknifemaker.com. Simple pouch design with only a border stamp used, wet-formed. Light distressing to give a slightly aged look. Hand stitched. Dyed using Fiebing's Pro Oil black. Finished with a couple coats of mink oil worked in with a hair dryer.

Hope you enjoy looking as much as I did working on it!

OH, almost forgot, the wood came from the New Knifemaker's starter pack that Burl Source gave out. Thanks again for this wood, man it turned out BEAUTIFUL!!!

Very nice on both accounts! :)

That burl is simply hypnotizing.

I love it, it looked great when I sanded to 2000 but when that Tru Oil hit it...man...it came alive!

Same thing happened when I hit the Tru Oil on my wife's gun stock many years ago. We still hear the compliments on that gun, I sing the praises of Tru Oil. :D :D :D

I worked a long time on that stock, and am very proud of the results. :)

I refinished a 60's CVA Hawken mountain rifle with Tru Oil...and it woke up all kinds of character that was lurking beneath a beaten and battered finish. I love the stuff.

It's a shame that it takes upwards of 2-3 weeks for the finish to fully cure to full hardness. You have to kind of baby it during that time lol.

...........and while the knife is very nice and well finished, the sheath also shows signs of some extra pains taking efforts at a really nice finish. Those edges look great!

Thank you so much! To get compliments from someone with your stature in the sheath business, that means a tremendous amount. Glad you like it!
