I just started back into Leather Working after years of not doing it and am just about done with Sheath #6. Just wanted to share some pics with all of you and hear your commets/sugestions. The sheath is a Pouch Style sheath for my new Busse Satin Jack.

You can download the Zipped pictures Here. Warning, the zip file is about 3.3MB.

I'd love to hear your Comments, Questions and Sugestions. Thanks,

Heber

Heber, excellent sheath and pictorial.
I am no expert by a long shot but can offer a couple of suggestions.
Your pics didnt show it but if you dont, I suggest cementing the sheath together before you sew. If you use good cement such as weldwood or barge cement, you wont need those reinforcing stitches along the side at the top. I put the knife in the sheath carefully, then open the sheath and mark around the knife where to put the cement.
If you smooth and burnish the edges it will look much more professional. I use a belt sander at first but if you dont have one it can be done by hand with sandpaper. Use and edger to round the sides and sand smooth. Then use either gum tragacanth or just a little water and a burnisher and rub like heck. Your edges will be nice and smooth and professional looking.

Keep up the good work!

Dave, thanks for the information.:) I tried smoothing the edges with a file and it worked pretty good. The Cement idea sounds great. Have not tried that yet, but will on the next sheath. Can I get the stuff from Walmart or Ace hardware? Those are the two big places I know around here. Do you apply the cemment before or after making the holes and how do you make them?

I unstitched the sheath, applied some normal glue and am stitching it back up now. I need to get some Cemment. lol More pics to follow.

Heber, you can get the weldwood contact cement at either one of those places I think. You apply it to both sides, wait 10 minutes then press together. I make the holes after it's together on most sheaths, sometimes I'll do the front before and then push through the back after it's together.
Chuck at Wild Rose has an excellent sewing tutorial here:http://wrtcleather.com/1-ckd/tutorials/_leatherstitch.html

Heber, real good! And,right about the download, but well worth it!

Thanks Jonh.:) I did some more work on the sheath and just uploaded the next set of pictures. It can be downloaded Here. The zip file is 3.3MB again.

Dave, thanks for the information. Will be adding that cement to my shopping list.

BTW I've restitched the sheath, sanded the edges and have experimented with dying the leath. I've settled on dark brown. After the stain dries, I'll water proof it and this sheath will be finished.:) More pics to follow. And please keep the info coming. Thanks,

Heber
