Hello to everyone over here on the survive! Subforum. I just recently ordered my first survive knife, a gso 4.1 and also got the available kydex sheath. I've heard plenty of positive reviews on the knife itself (that's why I ordered it of course) but haven't heard much about the sheath. Will I be better off getting a different sheath elsewhere? I'm sure I'll find out when said knife arrives, but just wondering what everyone has to say about it. Thanks all!

The sheaths are great, the kydex is top notch and they all lock tight in my experience. Before I sold my 5.1's one of them had a slight rattle, only when really shaking. The other 5.1 was good. My 4.1 locks tight as you can get. Love that knife.

The only complaint I've ever heard is that if you wear it vertically on your belt, the handle can get you in the ribs. There are options to get it to hang lower like danglers and extensions depending on your preference and how you plan to carry it. Otherwise the American made, Kiah Dex sheath gets a big

Are the sheaths still being made by Kiah? I thought I'd read he (Guy) was thinking of moving in a different direction due to volume concerns?

Whoa, I could be operating under old information. I hadn't heard of a sheath change. I know I heard about them getting more equipment to be able to do more work with the steel in their own shop.

Love the screen name

The ones from Kiah are great. Seems like I heard talk of a change, but I think Kiah is still building them for now. Maybe Guy or Ellie can let us know for sure.

I've come to like wearing the 4.1 on the belt vertically. Instead of putting it right to the side, I put it right behind the right side belt loop so it's sort of to the back. Takes care of the rib jabbing, and I also like how my shirt can cover most, if not all, of the kydex.

it depends on your preferences really. The sheaths are awesome kydex sheaths, that do ride high on the belt. This is a problem for some and a benefit to others. Easier to conceal, harder to access. There are lots of options available to you though, including adding a dangler or buying a full custom leather rig. I personally prefer the less tactical appearance of leather, but haven't ponied up to have a custom one made yet. I have gotten one of the sagewood dangers though and they are both top notch and useful for wearing with a pack.

In the end though, the sheaths survive sends out are definitely top quality, but your personal preferences might steer you in a different direction.

Cheers!

Thanks for the input everyone. Sounds like I'll give it a good try before looking into custom sheaths. I appreciate the advice!

If you haven't thought about it already, here's an inexpensive (<$20) option:

Some people say they ride a little high. I believe sagewood makes a dangler and skystorm makes a leather backer (they both make other sheaths for it) among many others.

I'm a hobbyist sheath maker. When I ordered my factory 2nd 4.1, I thought of saving more money and opting out of the sheath. But, when I looked at the factory kydex and saw it was only $15, I couldn't make myself not get it. That's giving it away! The quality looks off the charts and it should probably sale for $50.

Stock sheath works fine for me. If you like leather and have $$$, Sagewood is second to none. I even prefer to carry folders in sheaths and Sagewood is the best piece of leather I've ever put my hands on.

The Kydex sheath is great.

The nice thing about the 4.1 is that it's a standard size knife, so there are some different leather options out there. Ebay has quite a few leather options to browse. One of my sheaths for my 4.1 is a Tops B.O.B. leather dangler. Fits great from the get go, and if you wet form it …. it's even more snug. Inexpensive too! It's not Sagewood quality, but it does the trick for the budget minded.

The kydex sheath is high quality. The only issue I have is that they knives tend to ride high. Because of this I've bought a number of leather sheaths but I find that I keep going back to the kydex sheaths with danglers.
