you've probably seen my other thread about building a Bowie knife but after I build the blade I'll need a handle and a sheath. for the handle I've heard micarta is about the best thing going and for the sheath what materials can I use inside the leather to keep my blade safe secure and more weather resistant anything can help

Just a guess, but patience is not your strong point?

Regarding handle material, how are you going to use the knife? Micarta is a durable weather resistant material and would make a good handle. For some reason my mind keeps focusing on a bowie blade with a wood handle. If weather resistance is required then there is stabilized wood or "dymmondWood". I've never used G10 but my guess is that it would be on par with micarta.

I can't help with the sheath question. My uneducated guess would be maybe kydex.

sorry I use tapatalk on my iPhone and the latest threads get pushed to the top so if I put something like help on my own thread it gets pushed back to the top for people to see that's all
regarding the handle I agree that I can see a wooden handle on a Bowie knife I've just heard micarta is durable and can still get the wood look but thanks for the help and I'll be sure to look into kydex for my sheath thank's again

I definitely prefer wood on bowies, You seem to be very anxious to get answers to questions that you won't need for weeks or even Months. Get working on that Knife and the rest will come.

I agree I should probably calm down a tad but if I get answers now I'll have better knowledge to weigh my options while I have the time

Wood on a traditional style Bowie is the way to go....I see a lot of "modern day" Bowies dressed in Micarta and they look great.....but not in a Kydex sheath....just my opinion.

My advice is to read and ingest the information in the stickies then ask educated questions with the knowledge gleaned from those posts. If you constantly ask questions then badger away about no answers you'll soon find that noone will answer your posts.

Wood is traditional on a bowie. Make a wood sheath and cover it with deerskin or a normal cow leather sheath and cover it with deerskin, both are traditional.

You could do both the handle and the sheath out of Ironwood. I'm just partial to it but it is pretty easy to work with and is real dense.
