Sheath and handles for mule team?

Halpern scales if you want ease of install and decent value.
Otherwise, go custom.

For sheaths, I like kydex. Sheathpro makes some of the finest fitting sheaths out there, and I believe even Spyderco has used them for projects.
Also, if small footprint is a concern, the glockcrazz sheaths are awesome.

If you want leather, you need to go custom or find a generic one that will fit.

Got some pics of the Halpern new colors and they're pretty darn nice. Anyone who bought them recently, does the mule still stick out from the sides? I remember seeing they had a pretty pronounced tang.

Really want to build one, but a mule + nice scales is gonna run you between 100-140, and then I'm getting into the price point of other knives I want. But ultimately I think its worth it for the opportunity to play with new steels!

Yes, the spine of the handle is proud of the Halpern scales.
I just accept it as a feature like the Gayle Bradley folders. ;)

And you're right, the cost does add up, but still doesn't take away the fact that the Mule is a fantastic knife design to begin with, and even if offered complete would probably fall in that $150+ street price tag.
And throw on the cherry on top; the fact that you'll probably not find many other (if any at all) production knife designs in many of these steels used, even years after their release!

The spine doesn't bother you too much when using it? I was worrying it might dig into my hands if I used it for more than opening mail :)

For anyone who has both the newer 3D scales and the flat G10 scales from Halpern, is one more comfortable than the other? I would think the 3d would fit the hand better, but the flat is similar to my Caly 3, which is a joy to use.

i use a glockcrazz kydex one i got made. works great. i also use the halperns.

I have seen those on ebay before, but no first hand experience with that combo. Sheath has a larger footprint than the Glockcrazz.

And, no the scale nor handle tang never digs in. I do have somewhat tougher hands from working with them often, but like I said, it can be seen as a similar concept to the proud liners on the ever famous Gayle Bradley, which is a hard use folder. It actually gives more contouring to the shape, and a big of traction in some grips.
My Mule isn't as extreme as the exposed liners on the GB.

And, I for one actually very much like the flat Halpern scales. I want my Mules to be compact and easy to carry, often even inside a pocket with the thin glockcrazz sheath.
The 3D Halpern may be slightly more ergonomic and comfortable in use, but I'll just grab a different thicker knife at that point if I really need it. I primarily carry and use folders, so I'm used to that and rarely have I felt the need for a big thicker handle (unless I am camping).

And I should mention, the Spyderco G-clip is great and highly under appreciated and under mentioned here!

If you get some, post pics! Not a bad price considering you get the sheath, too, but idk how it compares to other options

I enjoyed making my own scales and sheath. This was probably the fifth or sixth set of scales I have put on a blade and the second or third sheath I have made.

That is BEAUTIFUL, man! I wish I could ship you some wood or G-10 and see what you came up with :)

Has anyone tried 3D printing some? I have no real tools to speak of outside of a hacksaw and a drill, so thats more my style :)

That was done with all hand tools other than a drill press to drill the holes. The rest was files and sandpaper.

If anyone has an extra set of scales they dont need, send me a message/e-mail. Someone messaged me and I cant seem to find it anymore.

Probably gonna grab somr Halpern ones if that eBay fellow doesn't reply soon.

Here is one I've made myself a few years ago. Horn and striped ebony, hidden studs.
Thinking about making a few more of these: have got a number of blades accumulated over the years.
Sorry no sheath.
