I bought this online. Felt sorry for it. Beat up, corroded, looks like someone beat the edge on rebar for a year and let sit in salt water. Some serious problems, weird the handle, guard and black finish isn't too bad. A mix of issues. I think I will take enough off the sides to remove the pitting and leave the rest to Bucks Spa service. Kinda still a badass knife, like some grouchy junk yard dog.

I keep waiting for the next part, where I see it "reborn" with a pretty new sharpened edge. There might be a jewel under that rust.

Just disassembled this evening. I will post pics on how it goes. There are some choices to be made. Too much metal taken off the sides will leave a gap at the guard.

Dang, that thing looks like it was beat to hell and back. Waiting to see the finished product.

Looks like a fun project. From my pov it doesn't look bad from hard use, more corrosion. Is that the original edge? Unfortunately it will have to be sharpened deeply to get a smooth edge. The clip serrations too.
Look forward to following the journey.

i like 'em like that sometimes cause i got no fear of making it a hard user. nice find, looking forward to the restoration pics and posts.

This heartwarming and noble action is akin to
The adoption of an abused animal in dire condition.
It's very touching that someone
Has taken on the great responsibility
Of rehilibitation a once magnificent beast...
And From the looks of things,
It's already safe in the hands of a kind hearted angel!
tender loving care ensured,
Just Can't wait to see the transformation
Picturing a black wash distress finish...

That Buck is like having a Hemi convertible that is beat up but still worth saving. .The question is to hotrod and customize it or to bring it back fairly stock. It's close either way.

I think I would just remove the rust and fix the edge.
The knife has a story to tell, when do you ever see a BUCKMASTER that has a story to tell other than " I sat on a shelf or in a safe for years "
Sure some got used, but none like this I'm sure.

Anyways I'm awaiting the results.

There's nothing wrong with the character that comes from a hard life. It shows what the old knife is made of.

Im having the blade done by a well known custom maker. Ill update as it goes. Im looking forward to all the parts that will be updated. Gives me some time to put a sheath together.
