I use mink oil on my leather boots and shoe polish on my leather shoes. What should I use to keep my leather sheaths from drying out?

A wax based leather treatment such as sno seal or niki wax. Mink oil tends to relax leather

cast my vote for a wax based treatment also. sno-seal is an excellent product. saw an article in one of the mag's endorsing Renaissance wax for sheaths.have heard some people say a wax product will clog the pores in leather, but i have had no trouble with this.

Sno-Seal is an excellent choice. If you can find mink oil without silicone in it it can also be used. It is the silicon that is found in most mink oil products that will soften the leather. Also it works best to warm the sheath before applying the wax so that it will soak in. I've occassionally warmed sheaths briefly in the oven but be careful! I've also cooked a few.

Well first I have the vet come over and give Smokey (my horse) a shot 'cause he doesn't like you to clean his sheath 'cept when he's loaded. Then a little warm soapy water

Horse people will understand. If you don't just ask.

Actually folks, on my tack and saddles I use a wax based product. Seems to work just fine.
