Hi,

Many of my knives have leather sheaths and as they are getting old need some attention.
I have been told not to use dubbin on them as this rots the stitching. I have been recommended by people. Mars oil, and Nikwax leather conditioner.

Does anyone have any advice, experience as to what is a good way to rejuvenate old leather sheaths ?

Thanks

K

I treat all my leather sheaths with SnowSeal, a silicon/beeswax. I take them apart, apply SnowSeal inside and outside, melt it in with a blow drier and re-stitch. It works great for stacked leather grips, too. Won't soften the leather and it will inhibit moisture penetration which can rust your blades. Works well on new and old leather.

It depends on what the stitching is made of - in some cases I have known linen thread to weaken with some preparations - go organic and use good old mutton fat but if you cant stand it Lanolin.
