Hello --

I was checking out the Buck Knives web site the other day when I noticed that a change has been made in the Diamondback sheath.

Here's a picture of a Diamondback 4.25 with the (I guess) original hard-molded sheath, without retention strap:

Below is an image of the Diamondback with what I guess is the new sheath style for Diamondbacks, taken from the Diamondback 4.25 web page at Buck Knives:

Can anyone from Buck tell me why there's been a change in the sheath style for Diamondbacks? Was there something wrong with the original hard-molded, friction-fitted sheath? Should I upgrade to the new sheath for safety and/or more knife protection?

Thanks for your reply,

Good question. I had one of those knives for a while, and I disliked the hard plastic sheath which to me had a kinda useless 'tactical' bent to it. An improvement!

A further sheath comment: Hard to do better than the great leather sheaths that came with my 124, 119, 120. Those are really good, quality pieces that the knives deserve.

Feedback from the market place told us that hard plastic sheaths did not work on hunting products, so we listened and chaged. The sheaths do not have any issues other than the market place did not want them. Hope this helps

They were 'ugly'. I thought they were very functional and versital. I have the small one in the original sheath. You could un do the loop and put it on a back pack or almost anything. It gets mostly kitchen use now and the hard sheath does better when knocked into the wash water.(dries faster)
