Sheath cost?

I usually figure out what I want for the knife and throw the sheath in for free. My sheaths have all been made from heavy leather, all hand tooled with a basket weave pattern, and the customers initials in it if they want them stamped in. It takes me maybe an hour to do one. Plus I can do 95% of the work while watching TV, so it doesn't really seem like work. :D

If I were to charge for one, which I have made just the sheaths for some people, I charged $30.

Hope this helped.

I send my knives out to professional sheath makers and pass on the actual cost of the sheath to the customer.

I'm with fox for now, though Laredo sounds about right too. When I start making my own, I will just price the knife where I want it(or where I think it'll sell anyways) and just sorta go by assumption that knife and sheath go together.

I figure in the cost of materials and time into the overall knife price. If a customer wants a knife only, I'll drop $20.00 to $30.00 off the knife's price. That's about what I charge for a replacement sheath too dependant on the size of the knife, of course.
BTW, I make pouch type sheaths for my knives.;)

All the best,

Most of my knives are Bowies and larger than hunters, If a customer dose not want a sheath I knock off $50. If someone wants me to build a sheath thy start at $50 and go up. Gib

Tess makes the sheaths for all my knives (and some other makers) but, I know she charges about $20-$25.00 for a basic sheath, then they go up from there.

A sheath is included with every knife at no charge. If someone wanted a knife with no sheath - this has never happened - I'd probably feel like I should knock $20 off the price. It takes me two or three hours to make a died and tooled sheath. I mostly only use leather so far; kydex is a different story, they are much more expensive to make when you start adding in techlocs and stuff like that. I don't enjoy working plastic as much as I do leather. :)
