Here`s a knife I made earlier.

I am about to start on a sheath for it but I can`t decide on what model to make?

Here are two "openspine" versions that differ slightly:

#1.

#2.

And here is the more usual version I make.

#3.

Now which one do you all think I should make?

Really nice work on both sheaths and knives. If it was me, I would do #2.

If it were my knife I would select #2 - the bold, striking design would compliment the knife very well.. If the customer intends to carry and use it, though, #3 might be best.

Is the spine sharp? If so, I would go with number three. If not, I would choose number one. Number two has too much going on for my taste.

If its going to be a user, then #3, as I can see problems arise as the leather softens with use. #2 Looks great, and would be better if the knife is going to be on display or carried infrequently. Great work, well done.

Opinions seem to vary, and all for good reasons.
I like #1 best. As was said above, #2 just has too much going on. #3 is nice, for a user, but why hide such a beautiful blade ?
#1 is elegant and understated.

I like #3 the best, but it would not be a deciding factor if it were me. Why don't you ask your customer?

The spine is not sharp, I would never consider an openspine sheath if it was ;)

I would ask the customer if there was one.
But I had planned on bringing this with me to New York in february, but who knows...

Thanks everyone for your nice and informative comments!

I vote for #2, although #3 is more practical for carry. But who in their right mind would want to even put a fingerprint on it? I would rather just stare at it alot, it's so damn beautiful.

That's some really amazing looking knives and sheathes. Number two would show off that nice Damascus pattern the best, maybe make it in in black leather, to match the handle and fittings a little closer.

I love that third one though ...... :D

After going back and forth a dozen times, and almost liking #1 and then #2 and then back again, I finally looked at #3 and decided for that knife it is the nicest. Now personally, re the knife, the blade shape does not turn my crank and I'm not fond of curly Q's that can catch on things but as it is, # 3 is the ticket.
