Hi.

I´m from Scandinavia and currently working on a knife made solely from materials available in Scandinavia during the viking age. The blade is handforged in sweden and the handle will be reindeer antler and curly birch. The sheath will be raw leather and in traditional design.

I wan´t to use a bear claw on the sheath, but it has proven to be a small problem acquiring this in Europe. Not because bear hunting is illegal in Scandinavia, it´s just.....well....there aren´t that darn many bears shot per year, due to quota limitations.

So I was wondering if anyone in here could point me in the direction of a reputable North American/Canadian seller of genuine bear claws ?

I'm pretty certain that Canada prohibits most exports on bear parts (including claws), to try to keep China from trying to have them all shot out of hand to supply their snake oil salesmen and curiosity markets. A certain amount of bear parts is exported, especially to the US, where the laws are all over the place from state to state. Bear claws are a lot easier to export than most things, but a lot of sellers are going to balk at all the bureaucracy and not bother selling abroad.

As mentioned, they are available - but expensive and also many sellers will not ship internationally to avoid any potential legal issues.

There are many realistic reproduction claws available however - just google "bear claws" or "bear claw jewelry".
