Sheath end too sharp....

I take my Kuk backpacking/camping alot lately, but Im worried about the end of the handle, as well as the end of the sheath tearing the nylon pack when I just stow it.

Ive already addressed the handle in another thread, so anyways anyone Mod the sheath? I love the traditional sheath, and how well it holds the blade, but the metal end is just too sharp.

So anyone have any simple mods to fix this?

Appreciate your guys time.

First, you must find and kill a Nepali weasel. (housecat will suffice) Once you kill and skin the cat/weasel, you must use the animals' brains to tan the hide.
Careful ! You will keep the cat skull to wear on your hat, so try not to destroy it.
When this is done, wad the tanned hide into a ball and tape it to the end of the chape (metal tip of the sheathe) with electrical tape.
This is the traditional method.

Or heat the chape up with a heat gun until the glue softens and take it off.

Another idea you could try is to put a drop of clear epoxy or superglue on the tip. Since the glue/epoxy is clear it won't affect the look of the sheat but will make it round and prevent poking.

Just file down the point a little bit. or heat it up with hair dryer and remove the whole thing. the BELL thing works you just have to find one that fits.GOOD LUCK:thumbup:

I use a large rock or similar object. Then I take the object. Then I pound on the pointy place until it no longer offends me.

Or just wear it traditionally. No innocent housecats will expire then. :D

I used a belt sander and rounded off the handle points and the scabbard tip. Works great now and fixed the issue for me. I do like the idea of using the Nepali weasel.

Either wear it on your belt, lash it to your pack, buy a sharpshooter Baldric rig from KnivesShipFree dot COM, or have a baldric rig made up for you.

I just boiled some water and stuck the end of the sheath into it until it became soft enough to pull off. Then I let it dry and dipped the end of the sheath in some Plasti-Dip (http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip) to make it tough enough so it won't rub through, or have the leather come apart, or what have you. To be honest you could just pull the metal thing off and leave it if you were so inclined, as I dont think it would fall apart. The plastidip has held up great, doesn't wear in my pack, and prevents the tip from digging in anywhere. For my AK Bowie (which has become my standard camping tool) I actually had a different sheath made so that I could have it scout-carry across my back and out of the way. The sheath itself is so tough that if a bear stole my knife I could probably smarten it up by hitting it with the sheath!

Danny, Graves...:D:thumbup:

I usually just whack it with a hammer, take to a grinder, or use a lighter and carefully melt the glue until it falls off.

Or, more often than not, I forgo the bulky scabbard and make a nice set of leather (usually from housecats) pants for it.

I just sharpen mine, it's a great SURPRISE parry/ poker...:)

Or, a few strips of duct tape works well too.

The gutted Christmas bell trick works. I used solder to attach them.

Another option is to carefully drill through the tip and into the scabbard. (Remove the khukuri first, obviously.) Deburr the edges of the hole with a file. Not only is your point gone, but you now have a drain hole.

I also use the plasti dip method. I just take a lighter to the metal till the glue heats up. Do a couple different coats of the plasti dip and it'll hold up great.
