Just finished a knife sheath for a friend based upon a tracing he mailed to me. I've also attached the photo he sent me of his knife and the sheath it came with. A bit of a casserole of leather varieties, but I believe it will work out nicely. More pics to come, plus feedback, once he receives it! Thanks for looking!

I hope it serves you well, my friend! I look forward to your feedback!

Very nice. I love the stitching you do.

One question. What provides the retention? That Esee's handle is about as long as the blade.

Very clean.

Thanks! Done properly, careful sizing and friction seem to work. I'm looking into straps, etc., but I like the idea of a snug fit and a quick draw.

From the looks of it, part of the canvas will fit inside the sheath. That should keep it there nicely.

It should have a tight grip on the blade, based upon the picture and tracing you sent me. I hope! If not, we'll talk. In the future, I'd like to incorporate magnets into the sheaths I make for steel blades.

It's a bit hard to see from the pictures but does it have a welt for the blade to sit against ?
Is it glued as well as stitched ?
Its a very interesting idea and design .

Ken

It does have a welt! Thin, and dark-colored, so it's a bit difficult to see in the pictures. It is glued and stitched. I made the mistake of omitting it in earlier models, but blades + thread didn't = win. :p

I'm glad you like the design! It was a collaborative effort between me and my sword-making sweetheart.

He received the sheath and it's a great fit! He said it doesn't slip out even if he shakes it upside down. He was kind enough to take some very nice photos of the sheath with the blade:

What types of leather did you use?

That is a fantastic looking piece. I know I've already said it, but I really like the braiding (or however you call it). Nice that you can skip the edge burnishing. The thin welt helps in the retention I suspect.

Your clip just reminded me that I'd ordered some and never got them. Thanks for the jolt to my memory. :)

I used thick veg-tanned cow for the front and back, thin cow for the welt, and Gola goat for the covering. I'm glad you like it! I hope you receive your clips soon!
