Some time back Buddy Thomason (HTMD here on Bladeforums) started a thread on the TKN Sheath Making Forum "Integrating Sheath Design & Knife Style" http://knifenetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22381 (stay tuned for part 2 of the discussion....)

The centerpoint of that discussion was this Bowie by John Perry, ABS/JS:

After several false starts - for me building a sheath for a Neo-classic Bowie such as this is a balancing act - a blending of the traditional and the "modern".
Anyway here is the outcome - a complete change from my regularly seen frontier styles.....:

I believe I got that "blend" - What do ya'll think? hope you enjoy the view.....

Chuck, I see you have the use of your computer again.

Great looking sheath. I think the blend is excellent. I am a firm believer that the knife and sheath are equal partners and that a poor or so-so sheath can lower my excitement for a knife by a large amount.

Thankee -
This sheath was really a challenge in some ways - like some the design just did not come easy so it's a matter of trial and error and finally inspiration - even I'm happy with this one and I'm my worst critic! ;)

Howdy Keith - Yep got power back on about 7:00 tonight - it's been a couple of loooong, dark, cold days. Got a bunch of town chores tomorrow (our once a week trip :D), so will be back on your sheath Wednesday - should have everything done by Saturday latest (this JP sheath was a nice piece to get me back in action for doing the metal work on Wild Goo #1.) In comparison yours was one of those "easy" design - of course making it is another thing - especially considering the quality/uniqueness of Tai's knife....

the Sheath is Very much an integral part of the package..Chuck your work here sets off a really fine piece.

I'd say you nailed that one - a perfect complement to that terrific bowie. I like the way you tooled the leather on the back side of the shaeth and belt loop as well. Cool.

That knife is clearly well-made, but I would not purchase it by itself. It is just out of my emotional reach to make the leap unless it was a givaway.

Not so with the addition of the sheath. You elevated the package immensely. That is speaking loudly now! :D

I am not purchase interested, but that's the impact it made on me. Wonderful work, Chuck! (As well as John Perry.)

Thank you all...

I just got the notice from UPS that is now in Buddy's hands along with another I just finished for him - waiting with bated breath to hear from him...

BTW - to clear up any confusion, that's not a steel welt (too hard to sew through ;) ) - it's a strip of fine silver inlaid into the edge.
Here are a couple of closeups.....

This one turned out real nice. Here are three additional images showing the knife & sheath combination. Thanks to Chuck for the thought and effort he put into this project! Buddy T

Buddy - Thanks for the additional shots and hope you make it home safe and sound and knife rich but sheath poor .... ;) :D
