Well, after I posted my disliking for the delivery process and the totally blunt knife (sharpened it myself so that it is now usable) in another thread, i decided to make a sheath for it an resell it on ebay.
this was also the sheath were i would like to have been able to say that i was drunk when making it... i wasn't. should have walked away from it. meh
there were some blemished on the leather... no clue as to why, but i decided to use it anways. this resulted on the leather not taking the colour in a few spots and being overall spotty... then again, i was using the eco flow waterbased dye.

as simple slip in, no frills, with a good weld to protect the knife.
oh, and i somehow found the single needle saddlestitching more comfortable than using 2 needles at once. but i drilled the holes, so that might have been part of it.

okay, last picture is almost useless...

I quite like the sheath. My tastes change all the time from squared off edge sheaths to sheaths that follow shape of blade.
One thing I never got to like is sheaths with loops pouches straps holders rings etc all over the place.
I mean sheaths that have a pouch for a tin of mints really? You have to have fresh breath in the bush?

Funny, I was gonna comment on your other thread. Bummer about the knife! :( It seems quite nice. I usually have a ridiculous tactical folder at the steakhouse, better to have something more appropriate.

Anyway, I was looking at the other thread and really liked the slip. You know me and black leather and red stitching. First thing is to eco-flush that dye down the toilet. Sorry, can't help it. [emoji14] But other than that I love the simplicity. Sometimes a rectangle just works.

Is that Tiger? Looks very familiar. :)

Well, if there are no takers on eBay I will aggressively regrind it on my work sharp. [emoji16] do you think 40 degree inclusive convex will do?

As for the dye. Yeah, I think that will be the way it goes. Sorry, I am sure somebody else likes the stuff, but I will stick with oil dye.

And yes, that is 0.8mm tiger thread. Never going to switch to anything else again unless I have to. That stuff is just amazing for hand stitching.

I like the stitching it looks good. You guys keep banging away at this black and red thing and its growing on me. I just made my first steak knife last month. A local guy ordered a matching set of six to give to his wife for their anniversary. Damascus blade, green mammoth tooth spacer and camel bone handle. I've been told I need to make a set of 8 more for this rancho now. The whole set would shave paper.

I was gonna make individual slip sheaths like you did here but he didn't want them. So I just made a quick roll out of chap leather with six indivual slots. The top folds down over the knives, roll it up and tie it with a leather thong.

I think for a set a nice roll out will probably be the better choice... Also for a set of barbecue gear. As always I am amazed by your work, that steak knife really is something.
You do realize that your knives are the reason I got more interested in traditionally styled knives, right?! Before that I was all about clean lines, sleek and maybe industrial look... Luckily I consider it a good thing by now.

Yeah, 40° should be fine. Hopefully you guys like medium-rare, it'll cut nicely. Just try to keep the edge off of ceramic plates as much as possible. ;)

Dave, I'm with Florian, that is a really nice example! Put me in line for your first folding steak knife. That would be something!

Thanks guys! Folding steak knife huh? Ya know I hate making folders. I've often wondered if the reason for the serrations on so many commercial steak knives was to keep the edge off that ceramic plate.

On a steak knife with proper (according to me) serrations, they should be on the first 1/3rd nearest the tip. Spyderco has a new serration design that has a long tooth every couple of serrations. These are the sacrificial teeth.

Maybe Nichole and I can pressure you until you make that folder. A friction folder might work pretty well. :D
