Sheath for an Ontario Sp-1?

Hi Guys. Just bought the subject knife and saw that the factory sheath is too tight, not to mention pretty inferior. I do like the knife though. I'm planning on reprofiling the edge to convex, like I did on the SP-2, so it will actually cut things. The knife itself with it's 1095 steel, 7" blade and great handle is a nice piece, just needs some work. That said, do you know if any other factory leather sheaths like the standard Kabar will work for this? My alternative is to have a minimalist leather sheath made for it and I'm sure that would be at least $50. Thoughts?

Thoughts??? I think that if you get an experienced sheath maker involved your $ estimate is quite a bit short. I also think that if you do go with a professional maker the quality and fit will be much more to your liking.

Thanks for your input guys. I spent a little time with the sheath and finally got the knife to go all the way in. It has stretched a bit over the last 30 minutes so I think I'm good. The factory sheath does hold the knife and will work for what I'll use it for. This one will be mounted to the outside of my pack.

Is it a leather sheath? Mine came with a nylon one with a plastic insert. I bought it a looooong time ago though.

Glad you got it straightened out.

Yes. It's half cordura and half leather. Not substantial al all but it does work.
