Sheath for Camillus Arclite

Got an Arclite with the D2 steel a couple of weeks ago. The knife is nice, but the kydex sheath it came with stinks. Does anyone make an after market sheath for these. I would prefer not to have to send the knife out for this.

Thanks,

Kirk

far as I know, Blade-Tech is the master of all things Kydex - I expect to encounter this problem this christmas with the 420HC Camillus ARCLITE i'm getting - and if I find the sheath genuinely dissatisfying i'll see what Blade Tech would charge me for Kydex done right.

What about the sheath "stinks?" I found it a very good carry package, especially at that price.

Compared to my standard version, my D2 sheath stinks. My D2 is noticably thicker stock and I think they just used the same sheath as for the standard. D2 won't fit in either one well. Standard only fits in its original well.

On the D2 sheath, the kydex is not well formed over the spine but comes to an off center point about an 1/8th above the spine. The original is nicely squared and even. On the original it locks smoothly in the first skeleton hole. On the D2, the skeleton hole imprints are hardly present and even driving the knife that far into the sheath takes lots of effort. Getting it out is even worse. The ball and chain can't take the strain and blew apart in the first few attempts.

My D2 sheath doesn't appear to be made for the knife they stuck in it. How it got past QC, I'll never know. They had to put it in at least once and would have felt the powerful resistance.

Yes, I should send it back. Just haven't got around to it yet.

When I received the knife the sheath was so tight that it was almost impossible to take the blade out (broken chain, sore neck). I agree that it seems that the sheath was not made for the knife. It was not my intent to throw stones, just to get sheath that works.

I recieved my Arclite in D2 last week and found the same thing. The knife is very tight when fully inserted into the sheath.

I bought the standard arc light & the sheath was so tight that it would break the ball chain.
I could have replaced the chain with cord, but was afraid of choking hazard.

Gave the knife away to friend who attached it to his life jacket with nylon strap. For him the tight fit was a good thing, wouldn't fall out in the rapids.

For the price, I guess it's o.k., but not for me.

They call me Uncleknife.

Ah. I didn't realize the D2 version was thicker, or that the sheath was the same for a knife of greater thickness.

When I first bought the standard Arclite it was indeed quite tight, but I just worked it in and out of the sheath a few times until the tension was acceptable. I've had no problems with it.

My D2 ArcLite's sheath was incredibly tight. Could barely insert/withdraw the knife. I left the knife in the sheath, heated it til it was warm to the touch with a hair dryer, and gently torqued the blade a couple of times....and now it's perfect. I was actually quite impressed with the sheath, and am only unhappy with the fact that the holes for the ball chain are not big enough to insert a 3mm cord through (and the ball chain went out in the trash after breaking 3 times in one day).
The knife is off getting a chromium and boron carbide coating, and I'll enlarge the holes in the sheath when it gets back, and put a cord on it.

Folks,
This thread was brought to my attention, and we at CAMILLUS want to take care of any problems with our sheaths. I have responded to the customers that have posted in this thread that have problems, but in case I missed anyone, please send me an email with your phone # @

wfennell@rjsonline.net

...and I will call you ASAP regarding the best way to take care of your/our problem. The sheath needs to be tight, as it is a neck knife, but not so tight that the chain breaks before the knife releases. We will stand behind our product, and make sure you are a happy customer. Thanks for being customers!

It never ceases to amaze the way knife manufacturers and designers respond so quickly and so well to the complaints on these boards, talk about keeping an eye on your own market, i'm tellin' ya this knife stuff is startin' to really convert me over from my gun nuttiness to being a true knife knut - I love the way companies handle the issues brought before here.

Let me tell you, if I ever see one, i'll buy a D2 ARCLITE from Camillus without giving it a second thought.

Mr. Fennel certainly deserves the gentlemanly title. I'll be talking with him soon about this.

Thanks Camillus

Phil

I think the D-2 ARCLITE is such a deal, I am going to have aftermarket Concealex made for mine - as soon as I get around to putting on the handle scales.

Yes... but where can one acquire a Camillus D2 Arclite? from what I can tell, if I want an Arclite in anything more than 420HC I have to directly contact Darrel Ralph and have him handmake me one (which I would very much enjoy save for the fact that i'd never be able to come up with the funds for such an endeavor)

I've scoured Knifecenter, combed 1SKS, and perused the BF for sale forums - nothin' :(

Go to www.agrussell.com. He's the only one selling them in D2 right now. He ordered up a few hundred of the ArcLight and EDC in D2 from Camillus. There was a discount for members of his knife collector group, but I think that has since expired. Not sure he has any left either.

If you would go to the Camillus home page. They sell a Tek Lock which allows the knife to be carried on the belt. I believe it sells for 29.95. I hope this helps.

Robert,
We don't sell the Mini Tek Lok the fits the ARCLITE sheath on our website. We DID design the ARCLITE sheath so that it could be utilized with a Mini Tek Lok if the customer wanted to wear it on a belt or webbing. The Mini Tek Lok is availible from its makers, Blade Tech.....

Phone: (253) 581-4347

Be sure to ask for the newer, "Mini" version of the Tek Lok, as it has different hole spacing than the larger Tek Lok. I hope this clears up any confusion. THanks for being a customer!

I sent AG Russell an email last week asking about the D2 EDC -- got a reply the nxt day. In stock, 89$ -- didn't ask about the neck knife. But they did respond quickly, a lot less effort than searching the web.
