I was wondering if anybody knows where I can get a sheath for the fiskars hatchet. It doesn't matter if it's Kydex or leather. I want to get rid of the plastic thing that it came with. I want to be able to strap it to my pack or belt etc......

I found a Korean-made nylon ALICE style sheath in a surplus store that fit well on my Fiskar's 14" hatchet. Prior to that, I made one from duct tape and cardboard.

The one that I use came off of another hatchet, a Colt setup. Works well, but doesn't help you too much!

I know that I've seen a small slip-on cover for the blade, a kydex one. It looked great and simple, but I've not been able to track down who made it. Normark may be able to come along and help on that one.

You can also try stitching your own out of leather, I did that and it's not tricky.

I made my own. Simple design but retention is fantastic. This was only my second attempt with kydex and it wasn't completely finished in this pic. It has a molle-lok attached in the pic but it'll accept a tek-lok as well. Works for me.

Here is a design that was conceptualized between Sharpshooter Sheath Systems and myself. I wanted a cover that would allow using the poll as a hammer without damaging the cover and still protecting the user from the edge. I just sold this orange one but I still have and love my OD cover. It is light, compact and a great design!

From the knife kit suppliers you can get a kydex kit for about $10 that includes enough kydex and a belt clip. Grab the wife's blowdryer and your good to go !

Otherwise, another vote for normark...

That's an awesome design. I can't see for sure in the pics. . . Is it folded over on the top edge or is it two separate pieces?

It is folded over at the top and the bottom is open.

On a related note, the article in the September issue of Tactical Knives written by Terrill Hoffman about Practice What You Preach features this same hatchet (my personal baby!) in the OD green edge cover.

That is a great design k estela (Kevin?). I think I'll give that a whirl.

In the mean time, I have been using a leather sheath from an old Craftsman hatchet. It fits the Fiskars almost perfectly.

Wow! Thank for the quick replies! I guess it's going to be kydex and them wait for a leather one. Hmmm...

i need to hurry up and get one of these hatchets... i've wanted one for a long time now....

anyone recommend a size....:)

I have two of the 14" variety; one Gerber and one Fiskars. The Fiskars, sans sheath, was half the price of the Gerber, and it is essentially the same thing, just with a different finish (as far as I know, anyways).

I like the 14" size as it is easy to pack and carry, yet it's big enough for most tasks.

I'm having trouble designing a sheath for a Nessmuk hatchet right now. I want it to also house a knife, and nothing I'm coming up with isn't ugly. I may just go kydex...

Ghostguy6 Thanks for the heads up. I had been eyeing that cover for my two Fiskars. I am presuming you have actually handled one of these scabbards,I was just going on the Kuny reputation. Kuny usually makes good stuff for the construction crew market
