Sheath for Hunter

Hello First time posting over here.

I am in the process of watching Paul Long's sheath making videos and let me say they are excellent. I just had one question about which style of sheath would go with a hunting knife. Would a hunting knife like the one I made below go better with a pouch sheath or a blade style sheath? The reason I am thrown off by this is because of the guard. I know I'm probably over thinking it I usually do :). Blade is about 4 1/2 inches

If I was making the sheath it would definitely be a pouch style for that knife. The guard is not pronounced enough to make much difference in the external profile and the welt can have a slight offset to take up the interior slack. The main thing that caused me to say pouch sheath so quickly is the handle to blade ratio. Good bit of that handle needs to be inside the pouch style sheath. It would be very unbalanced in a blade sheath and require a retention strap either high on the handle or over that TINY little guard which would be questionable. Pouch is your best bet, I think.

Yep overthinking it. With a few exceptions bout any sheath can be made for bout any knife. I think personal preference comes into play more than whats better. And, where (on your body) and how you want to carry it. My preference for the above knife (very nice by the way) of the two styles mentioned would be the pouch style. It simply would protect more of your very nice knife out and about. The prominece and acuteness of your finger guard makes it a little trickier fitting but not bad.
