All this talk about sheaths calls for another thread.

Back before Blade, Buddy Thomason posted his fantastic photos of John White's Clamshell Damascus Dagger. John delivered the knife to me at Blade, where it won "Best Damascus Knife-2011." That's the second year in a row, and third time over-all John's won "Best Damascus" at Blade.

Here's one of Buddy's photos.

I plan on displaying it in a glass-top case, so didn't order a sheath. John said he had something different in mind, though, from his old boatbuilding days. This came in the mail last week.

The body's Honduras Mahogany, the tip and throat are African Blackwood, and the belt and tip studs are damascus. The photo's by Mitch Cohen of Prairie Digital.

I think this'll have to go in the case, too.

The sheath is perfection and is the crowning touch to John's creation.

John White rocks. That is a spectacular scabbard and the perfect addition to that terrific dagger.

When you think it can't get any better, John comes through again. I am floored by the beauty of that sheath. John, that is spectacular. Congratulations Paul. You are very fortunate to have such a piece.

Paul,

That is a great sheath and a beautiful match with the Ivory. John did a super job.

^^^ Seven posts have said what I think, too. My word, that is elegant.

Kudos to ALL!

The dagger all by itself is a treat for the eyes. Add that sheath and it is out of this world cool. Love it!!! Congratulations.

One of the coolest knives around deserves one of the coolest sheaths around. Just plain cool!

That scabbard is almost even prettier than the dagger...almost. Great work, Paul I'm sure you're tickled pink.

That is a spectacular dagger and the sheath is equally so!

Congrats to John on his fine craftsmanship and to you as the recipient Paul.

Fellows,

I need to thank Paul, and several others who have responded to this thread, for encouraging me, and even pushing me out of my comfort zone.

Onward, through the fog!

John
