Okay, I know this has been covered about a zillion and four times, but here goes:

I'm looking to pick up a Mini-Talon, but I'm just not a neck sheath kind of guy. Is it best to have a new Kydex belt sheath made by someone, or adapt the original sheath. If adapting is the way to go, what exact items would I need?

I've been toying with the idea of the Mini-Talon for a long time, but the neck sheath has always driven me away. Now I'm desperate. I need talonite!!!

Buzz - if I'm not mistaken, the two rivet holes on the sheath are the same spacing to accept a Mini Tek-Lok.

Edit: I whipped a Mini Tek-Lok off of one of my fixed blades and checked it out on the Mini Talon sheath. It does fit exactly. Also, same works with the ArcLite sheaths too.

Let us know when you get your Mini-Talon :)

Buzzbait,
The sheath that comes with the MINITALON was designed in conjuction with Bob Bailey of Elite Tactical Carry Systems. Bob thought about the same thing. The hole spacing for the 2 hollow rivits is set up to utilize the BLADE TECH Mini Tek Lok. This give you a multitude of belt carry options.

Problem solved:D

Now, the way I carry my MINITALON most of the time is not on a belt or around my neck....I simply thread a piece of cord through the bottom rivet, and tie it in about a 1 ft long loop. I then "cow hitch" the loop over my belt, and drop the knife/sheath in my front pants pocket. When I need the knife, I reach in my pocket, grab the handle and draw the knife. When the cord pulls tight, the sheath pops off. When I want to resheath, the sheath is safely OUTSIDE my pocket....re-insert to the sheath, and pocket the whole affair. Simple and easy.

You will enjoy the MINITALON...'cause...TALONITE RULZ:D

Woohoo!!! Now I'm psyched!!! Big thanks to Dexter and Will.

It took a while to make the choice between the mini and its big brother. I just figure that the mini will get more use, as it's much more acceptable around sheeple. It can be carried every day, where larger fixed blades are kind of relegated to my outdoor activities. The size is also unique, so I won’t constantly be rotating it with other fixed blades of the same size. As good as a full sized Talon is, my stag Dozier is stiff competition in that blade size.

I can’t wait try it out during trout season. The mini sounds like the absolute perfect knife for cleaning brookies. :D

I'll have to think the sheath over a bit more. I'll proably go with the mini Tek-Lok. If the sheath can be rotated horizontally with the Tek-Lok, that's my favorite method of carry. The knife will blend right in with my belt that way. :)

Thanks again. Getting my hands on some Talonite has been a goal since I got into knives. Fishing was both the reason I first started buying knives in the first place, and what brought me to BladeForums!!! I can't think of a better trout knife than one that never rusts.

Buzz - the Mini Tek-Lok will mount to carry the knife in either the vertical or horizontal position. I have not carried my Mini-Talon on the belt yet but judging from its small size, it would be very easy to do so.

Buzzbait,
Like Dexter said, the mini TekLok allows for horizontal or vertical carry, and with an extra hole drilled in the sheath or TekLok, canted at 45 degrees, too.
If you get a mini-Talon, email me your address, and I'll send you a spare mini-TekLok, and a kydex dropped loop that has the same mounting options, and is also drilled for canted carry as well (could be used as a template to drill the TekLok for canted carry, too). Nice to have options;)

Big thanks Owen. I'll shoot you an email when the Mini-Talon arrives. I'll be ordering in the next two weeks. A 45 degree options sounds like a really nice option. I've never carried a fixed blade that way before, but have often thought it would be a nice compromise between the negative aspects of horizontal and vertical carry. You're the greatest!!!

Nobody listens:(

hehe.
No need to wait, if you know you're going to order it. I can go ahead and send it, and you'll be set up from the start.

Buzzbait,

I will also encourage you to look at the Mini Talon as a pocket knife the way Will carries his. It works very well for me.

I'm sure that I'll be trying a few different carry options for the Mini-Talon, including Will's pocket carry. I'm not sure that pocket carry will be quite for me though, as I'll be using the mini as a knife to supplement the use of a large folder… that happens to sit in my pocket. Sure I've got more than one pocket, but I don't know if I want to devote so much prime blue jean real estate to another knife.

This is under normal carry use though. When I'm trout fishing is another matter entirely. The Mini could sit in my pocket while my Dozier is sheathed at my side. That wouldn't be any problem whatsoever.

Hmmm…. Maybe I need to get inventive here. I always wear a baseball cap. Does anybody make a specialized baseball cap carry system? ;)

Oh yah. My last use for the Mini-Talon will be on hiking trips. That's an easy one. Hitching the Mini to my backpack on longer trips, or my lumbar pack on day trips should a piece of chocolate cake.
