I'm making a knife for a client's girlfriend who's an avid big game hunter. Trouble is she's in a wheel chair. She just got back from an African safari and he wants to give her something to comemorate the experiance. I'm thinking a crowse draw horizontal would be the way to go to make it acsesable in a chair.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Twice I have seen folks who were bound to a wheel chair for life with knives, one of them was one of the early custom knifemakers, Ralph Proudy, he carried his knife on his wheel chair, cross draw from the left side as I remember.

Thanks Ed, I'll talk with the client more. I have a pic of her, looks like a standard wheel chair. This is going to take some thought as to what rig would be best.

I'd think cross draw would allow the easiest reach of the knife, and inside the arm so as not to interfere with the wheeling of the chair.

I agree with all the foregoing, but work with your client here, as the devil is in the details. You may want to mock up a prototype from cardboard or crap, and use it as a fitting tool, then make a fair copy when it is right. Getting a finicky bit to fit perfectly is worth the agro.
