I have the said knife coming and was wondering if there are any sheaths available? I am more interested in kydex than leather. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Darn, I was about to say I have one in hand for sheath work right now! :D Then you said you wanted kydex. :p

The standard RMD kydex fits the Bowie variant...

Thanks but I wonder if there are any specifically made for the Bowie. The reason I asked is because of how the spine towards the tip is different than other RMD Variants. I guess I am more interested in any sheath made specifically for the RMD Bowie that follows the blade shape/contour.

I am not ruling out leather entirely .. do you have any pics? Thanks.

OOh! :D No pics yet as I just got the thing in, but soon! The knife is so nice that I really regret not getting in on the offer. Yes, I have a particular weakness for bowie profiles.

I hear that Porkerson has the same addiction, which may explain why I have not been able to latch on to one of any kind. :p ;) :p

Dwayne, you forgot to mention how nice her edge is! :p ;)

You should have felt it right after it was done! Seriously, that edge only took me about 20 minutes start to finish, and that includes getting the little 1x30 belt sander outside and set up. :D From here on out, major touch ups will take a few minutes if I have to go the 1,200 grit Norax belt, and about half that if I only need to use the leather belt/compound. I am not sure I'll ever go back to sharpening any other way with the exception of serrations and minor touch-ups, where I use the Sharpmaker.

I haven't gotten the courage to put a knife to my belt sander yet, I have a 1x42 Delta for leather.

Just go pick up a bunch of junk knives of different sizes at Goodwill or the like. Can usually get them for a dollar or two. Plenty of practice.

Use Norton Norax and/or 3M Trizact belts (I like to use the Trizact Gators for coarser grits, then switch to Norax for finer finishing work) which are specialty belts meant for metal. I use coarse Norton "Blaze" ceramic belts for major profile re-work, as they take a lot of metal off quickly without heating the blade up too badly. Always keep some cold water and a rag nearby and keep the blade cool and dry while you work.

Do NOT use the standard Al oxide belts on knives, as these are meant for wood and softer stuff, and will quickly overheat the blade. Finish with a leather belt and some compound (esentially a power strop). TruGrit has everything you might need. If you don't see what you wnat in your size listed, just give them a call because they probably do have it.

My current process is Blaze in 60 or 120 grit for major re-profile work (only if needed), then stepping down to a 240 grit Trizact (A65), to a 600 grit Trizact (A30), and finally to a 1,200 grit Norax (X16). I finish with a leather belt and green compound. I want to try adding a 3,000 grit Norax to the end before going to the leather and see what that does. I also want to try using a finer white compound after the green and see if that helps at all (or is purely for the heck of it).

Sorry for the hijack. :p That's all, I promise.
