I recently received a MArtindale Golok #2. Now that I have a proper edge on it I REALLY like this thing. (not my pic)

The stock sheath isn't that bad but I'd like one that held the blade more securely. Kydex, leather, cordura, etc... will all work. I just am curious as to different sheaths people have made or had made for this knife.

Please let me know if you have any good suggestions or references. Pics are great too. :D Thanks.

nice blade. where did you get that from?

for the sheath... a plastic GI machete sheath might work.

otherwise leather is probably simplest to work with. a kydex sheath that size would require using your whole oven instead of just a toaster oven.

sorry, the last sheath i made was long before the advent of digital cameras and not for anything anywhere near the size of that,

Might be helpful if you could state your intended use and type of environment.

I'd go with kydex for that, but if your intended use is as a hunting companion in temperate forest, leather might be a better choice.

You might be able to make a nice sheath from wood covered in canvass or Cordura. Lots of possibilities.

Please post a pic of your solution.

I would say it depended on what your main use of the machete would be, for me to pick either Kydex/Leather for it. I like Kydex, but leather does look nicer.

This is not a topic for W&SS. Moving to Sheaths & Such. Just because you post here the most it doesn't mean it belongs here. I've gone over this about 100 times already.

Sorry Ken. I'm new to posting in this forum and most posts I made regarding all aspects of knives have been in the Busse forum where we often lump all the topics together. I'll do a better job trying to pay attention to which separate forum best fits my topic. Sorry again. :o

As for the Golok: I bought mine from the Machete Specialists. They seem to have a really good rep and have treated me well thus far.

As for my uses: I use this at home to prepare fires and plan to take it on trips to mostly drier locations such as Arizona and CA deserts and national parks (though they can have periods of heavy rain fall.). I have never had a problem with leather in these environments. I like kydex too. I was just curious if anyone had already had one made up for their Golok.

Perhaps I'll have to see how the old PVC sheath method works out. :D

Thanks for the replies guys.

You willing to send the knife to a maker? Like one who doesn't have said knife but wants to? .....aaaaaand is willing to work with the owner on cost?

Hypothetical of course. :o

How ya been? Long time no see.
