I´ve just got a Marttiini lapp knife but the sheat is to tight I can´t get the knife out when it´s put all the way in, only if I use all my strength. Can I reshape the leather and have a good result? If I put the sheat in varm water untill its soft then put the knife in? The steel rust resistance but it will rust if it´s to long in water of course how long must the knife be in the sheat, untill it´s dry?

oil the blade, wrap the knife in saran wrap, dunk the sheath in warm water, put the wrapped knife in carefully and let it sit overnight...should be good to go the next morning :D hope this helps, it's pretty easy.

Is there a welt with a cut-out for retention? Sounds like there might be....if the welt is cut to fit too tight (been there dun it), no water treatment is going to fix that.....have to cut away at the welt.

I'm not sure what you mean but I think it is like you say. But I have already tried the water and so far it's much better but I'll see tomorrow when it's dry how it will work.

You did good Bodis, the traditional Skandi style sheath does not have a welt so the only real way to get it loosened is by stretching the leather while wet. The wrap will act as a sizer, making the handle a bit larger so the leather stretches around it.

I made a lot of Scandi style sheaths back when I started and they are one of the most interesting styles I have ever done.

The water method worked fine, thanks for the help.

I love does sheaths they look good and hangs nice in the belt but I have problems with making cuts in the leather when I put the knife back in the sheath. Is there any way to avoid that exept being extremly carefull when I put the knife back in the sheat? Maybe make the leather harder with glue or something?

only way I've found is to pinch the sheath a little and remove/resheath the knife very carefully. You might be able to make a thin liner out of flexible cutting board or some other similar material (the thin plastic covers found on some spiral notebooks works well too). If you make a liner, the sheath will have to be resized again. My Leuku is the same way, I have to be careful removing/replacing the knife and squeeze the sheath :)

Okey thank you. I´ve made like a fish scales thing. I put superglue on the inside and then break the leather on some places. Hard to explane but look at the picture. Because it´s two layer with leather it dosent show on the outsside of the sheath. I´ll see how it works.

It´s a very price worthy knife with a great craftmanship. The edge needed some work but that was easily fixed. The knife sits perfect in the sheath not to tight not to loose. The leather is smooth and the handle is very comfortable.

Compered to Marttiini and Brusletto it´s a much better work of art in my opinion. The steal is either carbon or Sandvik12C27.
